Lives of Girls and Women

Alice Munro has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. I can still remember the feeling I had when I first encountered her  many many years ago in  Lives of Girls and Women. That sense of being known, seen, understood, that an exceptional writer can bring. That sense of awe at the way she used language.

Reading Munro is not for the faint hearted. Her scalpel cuts to the bones and sometimes scrapes them, dissecting  sinew and flesh. And she is always honest.

At eighty two, Alice has decided to retire with a big body of work behind her. If you haven’t read her yet. Go do so. There is much to learn and relearn.
